J. Doug Pruitt, Chairman and retired CEO of Sundt Construction, has been named as the 2016 Hero of Education. This award, celebrating its 11th year, is given to a champion of public education in Arizona and recognizes the personal and professional commitment to support Maricopa Community College students and educational opportunities.
Long committed to educational causes, Pruitt has been an outstanding advocate for workforce development and vocational education. His leadership of local, regional and national organizations that advocate for training and workforce development has led to the advancement of many programs at the Maricopa Community Colleges that serve local industries.
“We are proud to honor Doug,” said Mary O’Connor, Interim President and CEO of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation. “His commitment to education and specifically towards the type of educational opportunities that our colleges provide, makes him the ideal recipient of the Heroes of Education distinction.”
The Heroes of Education Recognition Dinner honoring Pruitt will be held April 21, 2016 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. Since 2006, this event has raised over $1 million in scholarship funds to support student scholarships at the Maricopa Community Colleges. More than 650 community and business leaders are expected to attend.
