Pilar R.

Glendale Community College

“I work on a team that has discovered a genetic cause of a rare type of ovarian cancer.”

Pilar has always loved science. By studying Biotechnology at Glendale Community College, she learned in-depth research methods and applications in the bio-science field. With scholarships from the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, Pilar had access to hands-on training from instructors in the field. “I got a job helping to prepare labs for science courses,” she said. “I got to interact so much more with my instructors. I enjoyed it so much and my instructors would come back when I was washing test tubes and say “get me this bacteria!”

Pilar is now an Associate Researcher at TGen, and is putting her skills to use everyday. She and her team have discovered a genetic cause of a rare type of ovarian cancer.
