Maricopa Community Colleges’ Chancellor Rufus Glasper received an honorary degree from Northern Arizona University (NAU) for his significant contributions to the education of others.
Dr. Glasper has worked for the Maricopa Community Colleges (MCC) for 28 years, spending the last 11 as Chancellor. A longtime advocate for student success, Dr. Glasper has overseen the development of numerous innovative programs.
Under his leadership, MCC has developed transfer and articulation programs to state universities. The partnership between MCC and NAU – known as Connect 2 NAU – has grown steadily over the past decade.
“I’m grateful to receive this honorary degree,” said Dr. Glasper. “Over the past three years, there have been nearly 3,000 Bachelor’s degrees conferred to NAU students with 12 or more credits from the Maricopa Community Colleges – and the numbers have increased each year. Simply put, the partnership between Maricopa Community Colleges and NAU is stronger than ever.”
Dr. Glasper continually says that if community colleges dedicated to student success, students will receive the best educational experience possible.
With his involvement with the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation’s $50 million campaign, this message couldn’t be more apparent.
The Campaign for Student Success aims to raise $50 million over four years to support student success in the following 3 thematic areas:
- $25 million to fund scholarships that will directly support student success.
- $15 million in support for faculty and staff innovation, creativity, and excellence to develop new programs, initiatives and methodologies to enhance student success.
- $10 million to support community partnerships that expand opportunity for students.
