“My current academic goal is to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science here at Mesa Community College. Then transfer to a four-year university that has a respected computer science program to achieve a bachelor’s degree.
I’m a first-generation student, and I’ll admit, I’m intimidated by college as I don’t have a higher educational background. With my academic path, my higher education goal is to lay down a solid foundation for my family’s future generation in attending college, but also in scientific studies. I live in the Navajo Nation, and the infrastructure isn’t on par with the cities. I’ve had internet problems here since I was attending elementary school. Now attending college, I’ve had difficulties attending my online classes and some challenges taking exams. With drawbacks happening, this brought a thought to me. How does network communication work? I want to learn how technical networks work and how they facilitate communication. This has inspired me to go into computer science and work on research on quantum network communications.
Receiving aid for my education allowed me to continue my goals and helped me focus on learning. The support also helped me to stay motivated in continuing my academic path and also have a positive mindset.
Getting this scholarship meant a lot more to me than just obtaining assistance for my education. It meant that I was viewed as having the potential to obtain a higher education and achieve great things for my future.”
