Ashley D.

Glendale Community College

“I did not know this small gesture of kindness would change my life forever.”

Ashley is an Arizona native who grew up in Glendale with a close family. “Growing up I was highly active in many sports, with hockey being my favorite. This is where I met a firefighter while playing and he took me on my first ride along. I did not know this small gesture of kindness would change my life forever,” she said.

All it took was one ride along and she completely fell in love with the adrenaline and prehospital medical care. Ashley has been an EMT for eight years where she has experienced a multitude of different outlets to use her skills: from ambulances to the emergency department, to helping with professional sports teams. “The possibilities are endless,” she said, “but I also want to expand my knowledge base and continue to grow as a person.” This thirst for knowledge led Ashley to the paramedic program at Glendale Community College.

Before receiving her scholarship, Ashley was working multiple jobs to be able to support herself and pay for my education. The AMR Foundation for Research and Education Scholarship allowed her to reduce the number of hours she worked and spend that time focusing on developing her skills and knowledge to become an excelling paramedic.
