“Everyone I’ve met on this journey has helped in different parts of my education. Their advice will help me in my future.”
Chanelle S. ’18, started as a new Phoenix College Alumni Association (PCAA) Bear Scholar in the fall of 2015 with an intent to graduate with a business marketing degree. She was matched with mentor and PCAA Engagement Council Member, Miguel Andrade ’14 and nearly three years later, Chanelle is grateful for the advice and life experience shared by her mentor. She appreciated that her mentor, a businessman and entrepreneur, had once been in her shoes.
Chanelle graduated from Phoenix College this with a business degree and will transfer to Arizona State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in marketing, with an emphasis in communication.
She dreams to one day join the public relations side of a major airline as Chanelle was bitten by the traveling bug after following in her father’s footsteps – working at Sky Harbor International Airport. She recalls special memories of travelling across the country with him and hearing stories from other travelers.
Likewise, the stories and advice she heard from her mentor, PC’s alumni and development staff, and other students in the Bear Scholar Program contributed to her overall education and helped to make a difference in shaping her future.
“Everyone I’ve met on this journey has helped in different parts of my education and their advice will help me in my future overall,” she said.
Chanelle hopes that future Bear Scholars will heed her advice, “Be grateful for the opportunity to be a scholar. It not only helps financially, but it keeps you motivated to succeed.”
